Kristy A. Brown, Ph.D., is interested in understanding why obesity leads to an increased risk of cancers, including postmenopausal breast cancer. She has been particularly interested in the role of dysregulated metabolism in the breast microenvironment and how it leads to an increase in estrogen production, a key driver of obesity-related breast cancer. These studies have led to the identification of novel therapeutic strategies whose benefits may extend well beyond hormone-dependent breast cancers.
