In addition to advancing cancer research, a team of EIPM and Institute for Computational Biomedicine (ICB) scientists have successfully applied AI to improve embryology and in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Techniques of how deep learning can be used for the evaluation of embryo quality can be found in a recent study, “Robust Automated Assessment of Human Blastocyst Quality using Deep Learning.” Authors optimistically note that the “AI-driven approach provides a novel way to assess embryology and uncovers new, potentially personalized strategies to select embryos with an improved likelihood of pregnancy outcome.”
